THE SCHOOLHOUSE
Built in 1867 and activated as a one-room schoolhouse until 1952, the South Newfane Schoolhouse is a beautiful example of old Vermont architecture, and the home to the South Newfane Community Association (SNCA). The Schoolhouse is available for community use on a donation basis, and the SNCA has recently embarked on a project to build a site-appropriate ramp so that the space is easily accessible for all.
The South Newfane Schoolhouse is a valuable community resource providing residents with a place to meet, attend a concert or a craft show, view the work of local Rock River artists, host a wedding ceremony or a birthday party, hear stories told by friends and neighbors, dance to a local band late into the night, or to enjoy precious time on solo projects such as rehearsing music or fitness journeys such as practicing yoga.
This beautiful historic building is available to the community for events, classes, parties, meetings, concerts, weddings, and more!
There is no set fee for community members. However, we depend on donations to help with ongoing expenses and maintenance so please be as generous as you feel you are able.
You must follow the guidelines set to ensure that this community resource remains available for use.
How to donate: Make out checks to South Newfane Community Association (SNCA). Drop a check into the “fishbowl” jar by the door or contact SNCA re: cash donations at: schoolhouse@southnewfane.org.
SNCA is a 501c3 non-profit organization run by volunteers. All donations are tax deductible.

TABLES & CHAIRS
We have approx. 50 chairs that may be in various places but they belong in the storage room behind the kitchen. Please cover tables, desks, and floor if using anything that might stain or damage the surface.
TOILET
There is an incinerating toilet at the end of the hallway. It MUST be used according to directions on bathroom wall. Advise guests of instructions upon arrival.
WATER
There is no running water currently in the building. You will need to bring your own drinking water for yourself and your guests.
AIR CONDITIONER
There is a small air conditioner in the far corner. Use only when needed. You must turn it off when you leave.
HEATER
Email us at maintenance@southnewfane.org and let us know when you expect to be there. We will turn on the heat in advance so the room will be warm. Please do not turn it up past 78 degrees (it will not do much more than that). You must turn it off when you leave.
CLEANUP
Please return chairs & tables and any other Schoolhouse items that you may have moved to their place. Use vacuum by the front door to vacuum all surfaces. You must take the trash with you when you leave.
LOCKUP
Turn of all lights and lock the door. Put key back in lockbox. Use the same code to close box as you used to open it.
