Newfane experiments with innovative housing creation

FEB 14, 2025 NEWFANE — A new grant program created by the town gives homeowners money to create or bring back long-term housing units. Select Board Vice Chairwoman Ann Golob said the initiative provides income to participating homeowners, and says that "Newfane is open to this kind of development and wants to be supportive of people doing it."

'Grafton' gets screening at South Newfane Schoolhouse

Jan 15, 2025 - SOUTH NEWFANE — A short film, "Grafton," will be screened at the South Newfane Schoolhouse this Saturday, Jan. 18, from 5 to 7 p.m. The film is described as "a psychological thriller about a woman who gets lost on the interstate and stumbles upon a small town where she reluctantly assumes the identity of someone else."

South Newfane Community Association welcomes new board members

Jan 15, 2025 - SOUTH NEWFANE — The South Newfane Community Association (SNCA) welcomes four new members to its all-volunteer Board of Trustees. Amy Donahue, Marcia Hylan, Ravi Shimpi and Peter Webster, all South Newfane residents, join current SNCA officers Ann Golob, Daimian Lix and Maia Segura.

Goodbye to the 'heart' of a village: Former South Newfane General Store demolished

Dec 9, 2024 SOUTH NEWFANE — A former general store and home on Dover Road were demolished as part of a buyout. After about two years of the town of Newfane planning and working with the state and Federal Emergency Management Agency, the project began last week. "While we all wish there had been some possibility of restoring and reopening the store and renovating the home, the costs were prohibitive," the Newfane Select Board said in a statement. "This was an opportunity to remove what had become an eyesore in the community and an unsafe building in our Town. We look forward to having the open space and perhaps in the future it could become a park or be available for another similar use."

South Newfane General Store tested before teardown, floodplain restoration

Sep 8, 2024 - SOUTH NEWFANE — Testing for contamination is underway at the South Newfane General Store property in anticipation of demolition. Ann Golob, vice chairwoman of the Select Board and member of the SNCA, said the town of Newfane took over ownership of the property about three weeks ago as the result of a flood mitigation program run by the Federal Emergency Management Agency. The goal is to return the property to floodplain.

South Newfane Baptist Church sold; residential project planned

Aug 20, 2024 - SOUTH NEWFANE — A new owner of the former South Newfane Baptist Church plans to convert the building into residential property. SNCA announced the sale of the historic building earlier this month. The property has been in the association's possession since it was donated to the association for $1 by the South Newfane Church Board of Trustees in 2022.

Rock River Artists Open Studio Tour set for 31st year

Jul 10, 2024 - SOUTH NEWFANE — On July 20 and 21, from 11 a.m. to 4 pm., the Rock River Artists are opening their studios to the public for their 31st annual tour. This year the tour begins at the Olallie Gallery at the Olallie Daylily Gardens at 129 Auger Hole Road, South Newfane, where you can view samples of the artists’ work, purchase pieces, and pick up a map of the open studios.

Heartwood Trio presents 'The Well Tree,' an original storytelling musical

Jul 9, 2024 - SOUTH NEWFANE — Join Heartwood Trio for an original, all-ages, immersive journey through song and story, "The Well Tree," at the South Newfane Schoolhouse at 7 p.m. Aug. 17. A portion of the proceeds will benefit an accessibility ramp project at the South Newfane Schoolhouse.
